Synopsis:
Breeds in loose colonies along shores of alkaline lakes mainly in
Klamath, Lake, and Harney Counties. Scattered pairs
may nest elsewhere east of the Cascades. Notable are the records from
southern Cascades, and Crook, Wallowa, Baker, and
northern Malheur Counties.
Habitat Associations:

Lake/Pond Shoreline & Islands (350238 acres)
strong
Edges of Freshwater Marsh (15483 acres)
Relative Detectability:
Easy to spot, but nesting is usually at locations that are
difficult to access.
Challenge:
Attempt to confirm breeding by individuals observed away from
traditional locations.
